as long as america can still attract talents like her, they have litle to worry about challenge from china.

despite more and more overseas chinese do haigui, stem field is the least. reason is simple, america is still the best place to show off and get the most out of one's talent.

cutting edge S&T like high hanging fruit is extremely consuming on everything, china do now have resources to meet all requirements, but deeply lack the culture. the only advantage over america is rarity. just look at yang c-n, if still in america he is just another nobel winner one might easily find at some famous university campus, but in china he is way precious than pandas.

other than that, nothing. regrettably we have seen corruption takes over education and stem fields just like other areas. see you are a talent and really like to haigui, despite wife and kids all prefer america (chinese women overwhelmingly want to stay), good luck!

1st is support, on everything from money to time to patience, china simply don't have it. second even if you get it, you sure you will get credit for it, get fame, money? tu yy is good example, not saying others complaints are nothing, but she deserves better. and that is relatively pure STEM field controversy among fellow scientists. what about bureaucracy and corruption, once you near breakthrough, would you get some surprises? goverment might tell you it;s team effort ( and nowadays what breakthrough is not?) and someone else (mostly likely with connections) deserve more credit that you?

china billionaires are more than anywhere, but they are all traditional ones, low hanging fruit ones, like trump, at most like buffett, but there is no gates, no jobs, musk, no page or brin, the high hanging ones.

until china emerges one like that, or america keep shooting own foot like the stupid china initiative. americans don't need to keep up in the night.
