In summer 2008, I was attacked, sometimes
by real persons but mostly anonymously, for applying for the “Outstanding
Young Scholar Award” from the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
The reason for the attack was quite simple – I was accused of applying for
the award in violation of the Rules. I don’t think I need to explain this
painful and unjustified episode to my colleagues here – fact already speaks
for itself!
